Sing along with us: “It’s the most Googled and Amazoned time of the year!” It may not be the traditional holiday carol you are used to bellowing out, but it definitely speaks to the times we are living (and working) in. With our email inboxes flooded with promotions for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday, and of course online sales for widely-celebrated holidays like Christmas and Hanukkah, we are in the throes of the busiest online shopping season of all.

A phone and a credit card equals a gift

Shopify is one of our apps available for connection and their team at Shopify Plus recently released some eye-opening stats in The Future of Ecommerce Report 2021. With ecommerce trends already moving steadily upward, one global event caused an intense spike: the onset of COVID-19. Shopify reporting shows that at the height of the global pandemic, 10 years of ecommerce growth happened in just 90 days. And yes, you read that correctly.

“As countries locked down and retailers were forced to close, ecommerce reached an alltime high of 16.4% of total global retail sales. It’s not just Gen Z and millennials driving this trend—older shoppers have also moved online. According to a global survey across 11 markets by Shopify, 84% of consumers shopped online during the pandemic.”

Even in our post-pandemic world, the uptick in online shopping rates is not going away; it is the new normal. Shopify data predicts that global retail sales will continue to grow over the next five years and the world of ecommerce will become more crowded and competitive than ever. Businesses are recommended to embrace an omnichannel shopping experience for their customers with a focus on mobile-friendly capabilities, ease of use, and speed.

“Nearly 150 million people shopped online for the first time in the pandemic, and the number of ecommerce buyers will only continue to rise.”

Growing online sales create more responsibilities for ecommerce brands

For workers representing brands that sell products and/or services online, you likely experience the other side of these buying statistics – from digital ad spends and marketing campaigns to online orders, managing customer support issues, and maintaining a healthy customer lifecycle through it all. Even with a powerhouse technology stack built with apps like Mailchimp, Shopify, Stripe, QuickBooks, Zendesk, and any other platforms designed to help online business, it still requires a lot of manual work for employees to switch between various apps and oversee the sales process from start to finish. Don’t let this hassle impede your sales, during the holiday rush and beyond!
